We decided to enter the purebred cattle business in 1992. The breed we chose was Gelbvieh. This one breed offered more economically relevant traits than any other breed we could find. The cattle have excellent fertility, they milk well, have nice teats and udders, raise a big calf, and rebreed.

The Gelbvieh cattle work in our environment. We don't pamper the cattle, only feeding a mineral supplement. Currently we produce a few elite pure breds through embryo transfer.
According to the USDA Meat Animal Research Center's (MARC) Germ Plasm Evaluation, Gelbvieh is the only widely used breed that excels in calving ease, milk yield, retail yield, weaning growth, and yearling growth combined. In sum, Gelbvieh produce more pounds of weaned calf per cow exposed than any other widely used breed.

Whether you sell calves at weaning time, retain them as yearlings or keep them all the way through the feedlot, Gelbvieh-sired cattle offer your customers more profit opportunity.

The more than 200,000 head processed through the Gelbvieh Alliance document the feedyard advantages of Gelbvieh genetics. Gelbvieh-sired cattle gained 3% faster, converted feed 6.5% more efficiently and generated 30 ttimes as much profit as the alliance average.

Using registered Gelbvieh bulls on your Angus and British-based cows is proven to build the kinda of carcasses that work on the packer's rail and return hefty grid premiums. It's not surprising that most major cattle feeders are demanding Continetal X British feeder cattle. Gelbvieh-cross carcasses hit the industry target by combining muscle and leanness with the ability to grade Choice.

Use registered Gelbvieh bulls on your Angus and other British-based cows and you combine the British advantages of calving ease, moderate mature size, marbling and convenience traits with Gelbvieh's growth, muscle, leanness, fertility, and unmatched pounds of calf weaned per cow exposed.

Use registered Gelbvieh bulls on your Brahman-based cows and you combine the heat and insect tolerance of Brahman genetics with Gelbvieh muscle, fertility, performance, and predictability. Plus, in one cross, Gelbvieh adds uniformity to the calves, taking off sheath and ear, adding to marketability along the way.
